Although there is a side entrance on John Portman Blvd, I rarely see it open. You're better off going into the hotel, and taking an elevator down. Immediately you'll be transported to a blast from the past: dim lights, retro decor all around.The bar is fine but they aren’t going to be doing anything crazy or fancy like you see at some modern bars.
